IKEA kitchen front replacement - price and 4 real quotes
Replacing IKEA kitchen fronts is one of the quickest ways to refresh your kitchen without touching the carcasses, worktop, or installations. The price for custom-made kitchen fronts for IKEA in METOD, FAKTUM, PAX, PLATSA, and BESTÅ systems depends mainly on the surface area and material, but for most kitchens, it ranges from PLN 4,000 to PLN 35,000. Below are 4 real quotes for kitchens of 6, 12, 18, and 25 m², along with tips on how to calculate the price for your own kitchen.
In short: the cost of replacing fronts in a typical IKEA kitchen ranges from (small studio apartment FAKTUM, lacquered fronts - lower range) to (large kitchen with island and PAX wardrobes, veneered fronts - upper range). The calculator will determine the exact price for your dimensions – below you will find approximate budget ranges for 4 typical scenarios.
Price of IKEA kitchen fronts - what makes up the cost
The price for a single front depends on four main factors. At ogony.pl, all of them are set in the configurator and the client sees the cost in real-time - but it's worth knowing them to understand the expenditure structure.
- Material - lacquered Egger MDF (the cheapest option), natural veneer (oak, walnut, exotic roots), birch plywood (a separate category, not veneer). The difference between the cheapest and most expensive material is roughly twofold.
- Surface area in m² - the price is calculated per square meter of the front, so large fronts cost more than small drawers. In a typical kitchen, 30-40% of the surface area consists of lower cabinet doors, 25-30% of upper doors, and the rest are drawer fronts and fillers.
- Lacquer finish - semi-matte or gloss has the same cost. Double-sided lacquer (front and back in color) is a 20% surcharge on the base rate. By default, we lacquer one-sided, the back remains white - because raw Egger MDF is white.
- Details - pattern milling on the front (Linea, Wiedeń, Pasmo, Rytm), integrated handles or handleless push-to-open, non-standard drillings.
Color is included - full Farrow & Ball, RAL, and NCS palettes without surcharges. The client chooses the color after receiving the quote, based on a front sample (the sample cost is deducted from the final amount).
4 real quotes - from studio apartment to kitchen with island
The following scenarios represent typical kitchens from our portfolio of 200+ projects. The amounts are approximate and rounded - the exact price will be calculated by the configurator based on specific dimensions, but the order of magnitude is accurate.
Small FAKTUM kitchen 6 m² - studio or 2-room apartment
- 8-12 fronts (4-6 lower, 3-5 upper, 1-2 drawer fronts)
- Material: lacquered Egger MDF, smooth or milled
- Color: one basic color, single-sided lacquer
- Typical range: precisely calculated by the configurator based on material and dimensions
This is the most common "rescue client" FAKTUM scenario - a kitchen purchased between 2008-2014, where fronts started swelling near the dishwasher or yellowing from UV. Replacing all fronts is a fraction of the cost of a new IKEA kitchen with delivery and installation.
Medium METOD kitchen 12 m² - family, with dining island
- 16-22 fronts (8-10 lower, 6-8 upper, 2-4 drawer fronts)
- Material: lacquer (95% of cases) or oak veneer
- Color: one or two colors (e.g., dark lower, light upper)
- Dishwasher front: additional, without drillings
- Typical range: precisely calculated by the configurator based on material and dimensions
A medium-sized family kitchen accounts for most orders. The client usually wants a specific color from the Farrow & Ball palette that IKEA does not offer (e.g., Cooking Apple Green, Hague Blue, Stiffkey Blue). Delivery within 7 weeks of quote acceptance and payment.
Large kitchen 18 m² - with island and cabinet column
- 24-32 fronts (12-15 lower, 8-10 upper, 4-7 drawer fronts)
- Material: often a mix - lacquer on most + veneer on exposed fronts (island, column)
- Color: two or three colors, double-sided lacquer on the island front
- Typical range: precisely calculated by the configurator based on material and dimensions
A large kitchen allows for material experimentation. A common combination: dark lacquered lower cabinets (Farrow & Ball Down Pipe), light lacquered upper cabinets (Cornforth White), and an oak veneer island front with natural grain. Double-sided lacquer on the island makes sense because the back is visible.
Very large kitchen + PAX 25 m² - complete renovation without renovation
- 38-50 fronts (kitchen + 1-2 PAX wardrobes, sometimes PLATSA)
- Material: combination of lacquer + veneer + birch plywood (each in a different room or zone)
- Color: multi-color palette matched to the interior
- Implementation: sometimes we divide the order into 2 deliveries (first kitchen, second PAX 2-3 weeks later)
- Typical range: precisely calculated by the configurator based on material and dimensions
Here, the client usually already has an interior designer or a very specific vision. We provide a quote after analyzing the PDF project. The ranges are wide because the final cost depends on the proportion of more expensive veneered fronts.
What else can add to the total cost
In addition to the fronts themselves, it's worth including several related items in the budget. Most clients need all of the following.
- Front sample - always recommended before a large order. It allows you to check the material and finish in the real light of your apartment, not under a spotlight in a store. The sample cost is deducted from the final order.
- Double-sided lacquer - +20% to the front rate for fronts you want lacquered on both sides. Used where the back will be visible (island front, pantry door visible from the living room).
- Transport - calculated after the order is completed, based on parcel dimensions. A medium kitchen is 1-2 courier pallets. We ship throughout the European Union.
- Assembly - DIY. Fronts come with pre-drilled holes for original IKEA hinges, so assembly involves unscrewing old fronts and attaching new ones. Medium kitchen: 2-4 hours of work.
23% VAT is included in the ranges provided above - these are gross amounts that the client sees on the invoice. For B2B orders from the EU, we apply reverse charge VAT - after providing the EU VAT number.
How to get an accurate quote quickly
The fastest way is to use the configurator on the product page. You choose the front style (Smooth, Linea, Milled Handle, Vienna, Stripe, Rhythm), provide the exact dimensions, choose the color and finish - the calculator shows the price per front in real-time. Sum all the fronts in your kitchen and you have an accurate budget.
If you have a kitchen design in PDF (from a designer) or a file from the IKEA planner, you can simply send it to kontakt@ogony.pl. We will create a quote in Google Sheets within 1-2 business days, broken down by each front separately. This is more convenient than clicking through 30 fronts in the configurator manually.
The decision-making path a client usually takes:
- Configurator - preliminary calculation based on a few representative fronts
- Front sample - checking the material and color in real light
- Full quote - from our office, in a spreadsheet with each front separately
- Acceptance + proforma invoice - production begins, 7 weeks lead time
- Delivery - pallet courier throughout the EU
FAQ - frequently asked questions
Is double-sided lacquer included in the budget ranges? No, the quoted amounts assume single-sided lacquer (front color, back white Egger MDF). Double-sided lacquer is a 20% surcharge on the front rate for which it is to be applied. Most clients choose double-sided only for a few exposed fronts.
Is the front sample really deducted from the order? Yes. After accepting the quote and paying for the order, the sample amount is subtracted from the final invoice. If the client does not proceed with the order, the sample remains as a sample cost - but we do not refund it.
How long does it take to fulfill an order? 7 weeks from quote acceptance and payment credited on the proforma. Each front is custom-made to specific dimensions; we do not sell from stock. During periods of increased interest (autumn, beginning of the year), the time may extend by 1-2 weeks.
What if I don't know if I have FAKTUM or METOD? Check the hinges: FAKTUM has a metal foot screwed into the side of the carcass, METOD has a plastic UTRUSTA clip. Or send a photo of the hinge to kontakt@ogony.pl - we'll identify it in minutes. We also have a separate article on identifying FAKTUM/METOD on our blog.
Do you ship fronts abroad? Yes, throughout the European Union. Transport is calculated after the order is completed, based on parcel dimensions. Standard shipping to Germany, the Netherlands, or France - pallet courier 4-7 business days.
Are Farrow & Ball colors included in the price? Yes, (included) - full Farrow & Ball, RAL, and NCS palettes without surcharges. Custom colors outside these palettes (e.g., matching a specific interior element) require a separate quote.
Do the fronts fit original IKEA hinges? Yes. We pre-drill for original FAKTUM, METOD, PAX, PLATSA, BESTÅ hinges - the client does not need to replace anything but the fronts themselves. The dishwasher front is an exception - no drillings, the client adds dishwasher handles themselves.
