IKEA cabinet fronts - a guide to all systems (METOD, FAKTUM, PAX, BESTÅ, PLATSA)
For 25 years, IKEA has sold several furniture systems with interchangeable fronts in Poland. Most often we think "IKEA cabinet fronts" when we mean the kitchen - but fronts also fit the PAX wardrobe, BESTÅ living room, and PLATSA shelves. Each system has different dimensions, different hinges, and different ordering logic.
In this article, you will find five IKEA systems for which we make fronts - from the most common (METOD kitchen) to niche (PLATSA modular). For each system, you will get specific dimensions, materials, hinge characteristics, and tips on when it makes sense to replace fronts with custom-made ones instead of the IKEA catalog.

Each system has different front dimensions. The standard hinge drilling is the same for all (ø 35 mm depth 13 mm, spacing 96 mm), but the hinges have different bases attached to the carcass. METOD/PAX/BESTÅ use the UTRUSTA hinge (plastic clip), FAKTUM has a screw-in metal plate.
METOD - kitchen from 2014
The current IKEA kitchen system. Carcasses mainly in widths of 40, 60, 80 cm, plus 90 cm in some corner cabinets.

FAKTUM - kitchen until 2014
Old IKEA kitchen system, discontinued 12 years ago. You can no longer buy fronts at IKEA - only replacements on the secondary market or custom-made from a manufacturer.

The FAKTUM hinge (screw-in metal plate) is different from METOD - therefore METOD fronts do not fit FAKTUM carcasses and vice versa. BESTÅ - living room, RTV, shelving
Modular system for the living room - RTV cabinets, chests of drawers, display cabinets, shelves. Carcasses in two depths: 20 cm (RTV) and 40 cm (chest of drawers). The front does not depend on the carcass depth - only width and height matter.

PAX - wardrobe
Wardrobe-dressing room system. Carcass depth 35 or 58 cm, height 201 or 236 cm.

PLATSA - modular wardrobe
Modular cabinet system, combining PAX logic (wardrobe) with BESTÅ (modularity). Less popular than PAX, but offers greater dimensional flexibility in bedrooms with unusual alcoves.

UTRUSTA hinge. PLATSA most often purchased by customers who have unusual space in the bedroom - a sloped ceiling or an alcove 60-80 cm high, which PAX does not fit (PAX starts from 201 cm).
When IKEA is not enough and what you order custom-made
Three scenarios where IKEA catalog fronts are insufficient - regardless of the system.
Scenarios where IKEA falls short
- Non-standard color - Farrow & Ball, NCS, RAL custom. IKEA has a dozen standard colors to choose from, at ogony.pl you have 150+ Farrow & Ball, 1950+ NCS, 200+ RAL, all included in the price.

- Non-standard material or pattern - Muskato Root veneer, birch plywood, Linea pattern (thin 12 mm frame), Vienna (classic framed with bevel), Glazed display cabinet. IKEA does not sell these patterns.
In each of these cases, we make custom fronts for specific IKEA carcasses - with correct drilling for the appropriate hinge (UTRUSTA for METOD/PAX/BESTÅ/PLATSA, metal plate for FAKTUM).
Four decisions when ordering
- System - METOD, FAKTUM, PAX, BESTÅ or PLATSA. This determines the hinge and drilling.
- Dimension - accurate to the millimeter. Standard sizes from the tables above or non-standard.
- Material - lacquer (Farrow & Ball, NCS, RAL), natural veneer (oak, walnut, Muskato Root and others) or birch plywood.
- Front pattern - Smooth, Linea, Rhythm, Stripe, Vienna, Display cabinet, Milled handle, Round, Grip.

FAQ - frequently asked questions
Does the METOD hinge fit PAX? Yes, the same UTRUSTA hinge is in METOD, PAX and BESTÅ. Dimensions and fixings are identical - only the carcass depth and front type differ (kitchen vs. wardrobe).
Can I make one FAKTUM front if the rest are original? Yes. We make single custom fronts with no minimum order. We recommend a front sample to compare the color with the rest of the furniture - original fronts after 12 years may have a slightly different shade than new ones.
What is the standard hinge drilling for all IKEA systems? ø 35 mm to a depth of 13 mm, 96 mm from the edge of the front. This is a universal furniture standard throughout Europe - it applies to METOD, FAKTUM, PAX, BESTÅ, PLATSA, and most custom manufacturers.
Do you have a dishwasher front for every system? We make dishwasher fronts for METOD and FAKTUM (kitchens). PAX, BESTÅ, PLATSA are living room/bedroom systems - there are no dishwashers there. Dishwasher fronts are standard without drilling (fixing depends on the dishwasher model).
Can I order fronts for two different systems in one order? Yes. We often combine orders for METOD kitchens + PAX wardrobes + BESTÅ shelving - all in the same color and material. The aesthetic consistency of the apartment is a common reason for orders.
What is the difference between a METOD carcass and a custom carcass? You buy the METOD carcass at IKEA (cheap, fast, but only standard dimensions). We make custom carcasses in Egger MDF - it costs 499 PLN per cabinet, providing full dimensional flexibility. The front fits both.
Will veneered fronts work in a high-humidity kitchen? Yes. Natural veneer has a clear polyurethane lacquer - the same protective layer as lacquered fronts. Maintenance is identical: a soft cloth, mild detergent, no scrubbing and no wax.
